Outstanding teaching
Firm Foundations
We believe that as our pupils grow and develop they should have every opportunity to expand their horizons through new experiences. At TPS the children learn a broad range of subjects, developing the skills and knowledge in a stimulating and coordinated curriculum which allows the children to see how their learning relates to the world around them.
Building on the firm foundations in the Pre-Prep, this is a time for exploration, risk taking and new challenge through the children taking greater responsibility for their learning. Our dedicated staff are well qualified, highly motivated and enthusiastic about their subjects and their teaching. This means that TPS Prep pupils are encouraged to develop their self-confidence and love of learning with others in a positive working environment.
Our Prep School is large enough to provide a range of opportunities whilst retaining an intimate and supportive ethos. Overall, there are ten classes in the Prep School at TPS, with two each in Years 3-6 and single classes of boys taking the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate syllabus in Year 7 and Year 8.
Our all-inclusive approach…
We’re particularly proud of our all-inclusive approach to sports, drama and music. All pupils take some part in school productions and concerts, and have the opportunity to represent TPS in a wide range of sports fixtures.

Exceptional facilities.
In the Prep School, our pupils progress to the charm of the Grade 2 listed Beveree building where they benefit from well-equipped subject rooms including a fully networked, modernised ICT room and a professionally designed and purpose-built Science laboratory. The well-equipped music facility built in 2012, complete with individual teaching rooms, offers a bright and spacious learning environment, alongside a flexible classroom used for English and Drama.
In 2020, we proudly opened our new building, ‘The Hub’, at 51, High Street in Hampton. This fantastic new facility has transformed our Art and Design facilities and provides additional bright and modern classrooms for the Humanities subjects. All of our subject rooms have been refurbished with new furniture and ICT facilities to represent the best of modern education practice in this delightful historical building.
“Moving our boys to TPS was the best decision we have made and our only regret is that we didn’t do it sooner. They are flourishing and we couldn’t be happier.”

Fantastic Opportunities
We work hard to ensure that the children in Year 2 have a smooth transition to the Prep School, with the children spending time in their new classrooms and meeting their teachers in anticipation of their move. Pupils in Year 3 have their own class teacher with subject specialist teaching in Art, French, ICT, Library, Music, Think Tank, PE and Games.
The children benefit from a longer school day and a wider range of club and activity choices, alongside the comprehensive Sports Programme, which sees regular fixtures in our team sports against other schools. We’re particularly proud of our all-inclusive approach to sports, drama and music. All pupils take some part in school productions and concerts, and have the opportunity to represent TPS in competitions, fixtures, tournaments and challenges, broadening their horizons and allowing each child to explore their individual talents and interests. There are many trips through the course of each term which link to the children’s studies, across a wide range of subjects.
The children benefit from a fantastic residential trips and sports programme with an eclectic range of destinations such as Dorset, Manchester, Burgundy, Pembrokeshire and Eindhoven visited in recent years!
From Year 4 pupils follow a secondary-style timetable featuring specialist teachers for all subjects. They visit their tutor each morning for registration – a vital part of the day -when pupils are given information and helped to organise themselves for the day ahead.
Years 3-8 finish at 4:00pm every day, with clubs running through later till 5.00 p.m. From Year 4 the children are set for mathematics according to their learning style and English groups are devised according to the profile of each year group, with additional support from our team of teaching assistants to support and extend the children.

In Year 5, Reasoning and Latin are introduced as distinct subjects and there is a strong emphasis on preparation for senior school examinations which are mostly undertaken in the Autumn Term of Year 6. Our expert staff tailor the preparation in English and mathematics to suit the children’s school applications and we provide additional support with study skills, reasoning and comprehension to those children that would benefit.
At this time, many of the children take on senior responsibilities to develop their independence, resilience and leadership skills, setting examples to their peers and the younger pupils too.

Future Destinations
All of our girls leave to go to senior schools at the end of Year 6, whilst the boys have options to move at the end of Year 6, or preferably, at the end of Year 8. We support the children with applications to day independent schools, grammar schools or boarding options, depending on parents’ preferences, and the outcomes for the children are consistently excellent.
