Pastoral care and due consideration of health and happiness lie at the very heart of our school ethos and underpins everything we do here at Twickenham Prep School.
TPS has a welcoming family atmosphere and nurturing environment.
The happiness and wellbeing of the children is our top priority. Because when children feel known, valued and supported, they are able to develop their talents and flourish both socially and academically.
Our teachers know the pupils exceptionally well and establish strong and positive relationships through orientation visits before starting at Prep and liaising with parents about learning profiles and backgrounds.
Our Pastoral Team
Our pastoral model features three key senior members of staff leading this area:
Mrs Barnes – Head of Pre-Prep
Mrs Hepburn – Senior Teacher (girls’ pastoral care)
Mr Edwards – Deputy Head (boys’ pastoral care)

Communication between staff is excellent and information about relationships, home issues and pupil welfare is shared in our weekly team meetings. That means we can quickly pick up potential problems and work together to resolve them in partnership with families.
You’ll find that our staff are genuinely caring and take an active interest in the life of each pupil. As a result, children feel able to approach trusted adults and share any concerns. Each colleague is readily accessible to parents to discuss any concerns and regular parents’ evenings focus on academic and pastoral matters throughout the year. After all, a strong partnership between school and home is vital.
Our Golden Rule
Our ‘Golden Rule’ perfectly reflects our approach: ‘Treat everyone in the same way as you would like them to treat you’. A first small step to a happy, successful and rewarding life! That’s why we focus on recognising and rewarding kind and thoughtful behaviour and following the 4 C’s: Calm, Courageous, Considerate and Courteous. Our senior pupils play leading roles in modelling the right behaviours and setting an example.

Above all, TPS is a school that sets high expectations about positive relationships and respect for everyone. We’re that kind of place.
Wellbeing for our whole school community is a central aspect of our thinking, ensuring that pupils, staff and TPS families feel connected and considered about the direction of the school.
We focus strongly on the pupils having a say in the life of the school, through focus groups and the School Council, allowing the children to know that their opinions matter. Through the PSHE programme and our BOUNCE workshops, strong emphasis is placed on building the children’s resilience and a skillset to deal with the challenges we all face.
