EPSCA Chess Qualifier

Chess News

Despite the snowy conditions, Twickenham Prep hosted nearly 30 teams from London and the surrounding regions at one of the largest qualifying EPSCA (English Primary Schools Chess Association)zones in the country last Saturday. The day was enjoyed by all with our catering team providing plenty of hot food and drinks and of course the chess was extremely competitive. Our two U9 teams performed creditably with this being for many of our players their first real taste of competitive chess. Our U9A team narrowly missed out on qualification but special mention to Eeston for playing despite feeling unwell and to William for winning four out of five matches. Our two U11 teams are to be congratulated on finishing equal third and qualifying comfortably for the National semi-finals to be held in Bristol in May. Our U11 B team deserve special mention with a determined 5-0 victory in the final round to make sure of qualification. Harry, Rahul and Akshay were our star players this week winning all of their matches, much to their delight!
