Headmaster’s Update
After the generosity of the Bank Holiday weekend, we’ve had a purposeful and productive week at TPS with a strong emphasis on conservation and the environment.
You’ll appreciate that there has been a national focus on celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday today, with recognition of his extraordinary contribution to our understanding and insight into the natural world. Indeed, as Sir David is a local – living now in Richmond having grown up in Isleworth – there is even more reason for TPS to mark this special occasion! This week, we’ve seen groups planting sunflower seeds, special lessons and workshops focused on nature and wildlife and yesterday the school held its inaugural Conservation Day, an idea by one of our Year 4 pupils, Annabelle, which saw us hold a special assembly showcasing Sir David’s life and we also showcased a wide variety of projects and voluntary work by the children, including planting, litter picking, clearing waterways, building a bug hotel and setting up nests for bird-life. It’s vital that the children realise that taking small positive steps locally benefits the global community! Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success…and it was wonderful to see everyone dressed up as their favourite animals in support of the World Wildlife Fund charity.
In staffing news, I am delighted to welcome two new members of staff at TPS this term. Firstly, we are joined by a new member of our minibus driving team, Mrs Kerry Pringle, who has taken over our main morning route to the Isleworth and Hounslow areas, and from September will help us to extend the provision of afternoon return journeys to cover key areas of our catchment. Secondly, we are very pleased to welcome Ms Veronica Barnes, former Head of Music at LEH Junior School, to TPS on a temporary basis to oversee music teaching at TPS in Mrs Harris’ absence due to injury. I am sure our new staff will be made to feel very welcome at TPS!
I’d like to finish this week with special mention of our cross-country teams, made up of boys and girls from Year 3 to Year 6, who took part in the Unicorn School races at Old Deer Park yesterday. There were many very strong individual performances on the day, with Ethan K winning the boys’ event and Tabitha K victorious in the girls’ race, with Eleanor B also medalling in second place! The overall high standard of performances from all the TPS runners saw the girls’ team finish second and the boys’ team victorious.
Congratulations to all the runners, listed below, for the fantastic team success:
Girls: Summer, Rosie, Annie, Annabelle, Eleanor, May, Issy, Alice, Tabitha and Harriet
Boys: George, Oscar, Ralph, Cameron, Ethan, Kitt, Dylan, Milo, James and Ernie
