Headmaster’s Update
After the half term break, it’s been great to return to school and see the staff and children revitalised and excited to be back. Indeed, I overheard one of our Reception boys sharing his holiday news, exclaiming enthusiastically the highlight of the holiday was returning to school! His enthusiasm, perhaps, might in part relate to anticipation of tonight’s TPSC Fireworks event, a highlight for our community and an important fundraising event, thanks to the sterling efforts of so many parent volunteers. Indeed, as the dark nights draw in, there are many ways in which we celebrate in connection with light, and last Monday’s Whole School Assembly focused on the traditions and stories surrounding the festival of Diwali, which a number of TPS families celebrated over the half term break.
It’s been a busy week for the Year 3 children, with 3EW and 3M working with Richmond volunteers to complete the ‘safe-walking’ programme, learning to safely navigate and cross local roads, making the children aware of potential dangers as they develop independence. Meanwhile, Year 6 have undertaken a series of practice interviews with a visiting Head as part of their preparations for the senior school entry examinations; I must confess to eavesdropping at times and I was mightily impressed by the children’s erudite and energetic responses, tackling topics such as how they would change the world and the likely future of plastics. We wish all the children the best of luck as they embark on their entrance examinations at a host of schools in the coming weeks. You can do it! We’ve also really enjoyed planning ahead for next year, by seeing all the children plant bulbs in the playground tubs, overseen by our expert gardener Mr Niehaus, so we look forward to seeing signs of green shoots in the Spring.
Finally this week, I want to draw your attention to the publication of our annual school magazine, which features a rich display of imagery capturing all the fun learning, discovery and celebration at TPS over the past year; I am immensely grateful to Mrs Blake and Mr Howorth for their skillful curation of the content.
Please do spend time taking a look at the TPS Magazine 2024-25 edition in our virtual library, which can be accessed here:

Odd Socks Day!

Don’t forget it’s Odd Socks Day next week, on Monday 10th November, to recognise Anti-Bullying Week in aid of the Anti-Bullying Alliance – pupils may wear their funkiest odd socks for the day!
All contributions of £1 per pupil will be added to your school bill.
If you do not wish to donate please complete the optional ‘Charity Donations’ form on MSP.
Remembrance Day!

On Tuesday 11th November, all pupils must come to school wearing their normal attire for that day, which would either be full school uniform or a full TPS tracksuit. We would like to encourage all pupils to wear a poppy for our Remembrance Day Service. These are available to buy from our Charity Captains at the front of school in the mornings on Monday and Tuesday.
The Remembrance Assembly will take place in the afternoon, so Year 3 & 4 swimming will continue as normal in the morning.
Thank you for your cooperation.
