Headmaster’s Update
We are never shy of making the most of an opportunity for fun and learning at TPS! World Book Day on Thursday was the catalyst for ‘TPS Book Week’, a host of activities organised across the school to celebrate literature and reading. The House Librarians launched the week at our whole school assembly with those pupils exploring classic first lines of well-known novels. Miss McVey’s Reception class brought the house down with their extraordinary class assembly sharing adapted fairy tales, favourite characters and some very catchy songs! Another part of the week was the Art Competition which saw so many exquisite entries, with Divya, Freddie and Julian securing the winning entries and 8H and 4H recognised for being the top form overall for entries. The children paired up in classes on Thursday to share books in our Class Partnership programme and, of course, the three author visits, saw us welcome Chitra Soundar (Very Best Big Sister), Adam Baron (Oscar’s Lion) and Andy Briggs (Rise of the Heroes) to talk about the writing process and, hopefully, to inspire the next generation of writers. Of course, Thursday’s dress up extravaganza was a joy to behold – so well done to everyone for embracing the opportunity to be creative in showcasing so many famous and fun literary characters. A special thank you must go to Mrs Haywood for organising such a fabulous week for everyone at TPS.
At this time of the year, the Year 6 children can breathe a sigh of relief as they have completed their preparation and assessments for the senior school entry examinations and the majority of outcomes are now known. We’ve been delighted with the overall results, with the 34 children in Year 6 having secured 14 scholarships between them and 80% of all applications resulting in offers from 26 different senior schools. Indeed, many of the boys and girls hold multiple offers, many to first choice schools, and have the difficult challenge now of deciding which to accept. We look forward to celebrating all of the children’s individual and collective successes in the coming weeks.
Indeed, it’s been great to see our senior pupils involved in all sorts of exciting events after the examinations with preparations for the end of term production well underway and, of course, the opportunity only this Thursday for the girls to take part in the IAPS regional netball tournament at the Marist in Ascot; by all accounts the girls played superbly through the rounds, having wholeheartedly committed to the preparatory training. Well done indeed to all of the girls in the squad: Tabitha, Harriet B, Nicole, Harriet S, Evie, Eloise, Zara and Iris.
