Headmaster’s Update
This first week in February has coincided with Wellbeing Week here at TPS, with lots of activities to encourage the children and staff to think about wellness and mental health. Did you know that research studies suggest that singing in a choir can enhance your mood and your immune system? Well, in that case 47 children from TPS and the accompanying staff and parents must certainly have benefitted from the incredible experience of performing at the ‘Young Voices’ concert at the O2 on Monday, along with some very special guest artists: MC Grammar, Tommy Blaize and Souparnika Nair.
I am immensely grateful to Mrs Hill for giving the children the opportunity to perform in such an awe-inspiring venue!
At school, we have enjoyed some extended reading sessions and quiet time, along with some rather fun animal activities at morning break, courtesy of Mrs Harber. Thursday this week saw the school filled with colour as the children ‘dressed to express’, highlighting the importance of developing emotional literacy and the confidence to talk about one’s feelings with others.
I know for a fact that class assemblies are a real highlight for the staff and children and we were treated to 2R’s ten top-tips on ‘How to be a Knight’ with Mrs Robertson and Mrs Fox on Tuesday. We saw some incredible model castles, colourful designs for coats of arms and even some live jousting! It’s been great to see the children so inspired by studying castles, particularly in light of their recent trip to see Windsor Castle.
Pre-Prep have certainly had a busy week, with Year 1 enjoying a super visit to see Reverend Ben at St Mary’s Church on Thursday. The children have been learning about the key features of a church and became detectives and went on a hunt around the church to find signs, symbols and pictures that were hidden in and around St Mary’s. I gather the children asked many interesting questions, testing Ben’s knowledge! Did you know that there are eight bells in the tower that dominates the Thames skyline?
Finally, thank you so much to all the Year 5 parents who joined me, Mrs Kidson and Mrs Clough last night for a briefing on senior school entry, exploring in detail the entry process and how parents and staff work successfully at TPS to help the children prepare for the exciting opportunities ahead. For those unable to attend, please note that the presentation slides are now available to view on MSP.
