This week:

    Headmaster’s Update

We love sporting endeavour here at TPS and it was a treat to start the second half of the Summer Term ‘in at the deep end’, with the annual swimming gala for the girls and boys in Years 5-8. In perfect conditions, we witnessed many super races at Hampton Pool, with some very close finishes! It was especially pleasing to hear the children being so supportive of one another, celebrating the successes of others, truly showing the TPS values of ‘courtesy’ and ‘consideration’.

In Pre-Prep, it’s been a week filled with excitement, with Tuesday seeing us welcome our new Reception children for their orientation morning, building their anticipation at the prospect of starting in September. The current Reception pupils had a super visit to Painshill Park on Thursday, exploring the surroundings during a sensory walk, building dams and the children enjoyed some water play too…despite some rather inclement weather! A number of Pre-Prep and Prep children showed their musical talents with the ‘cello performances in our mini concert on Tuesday, courtesy of Mrs Hill and Ms Munday. Well done to all the performers, including Benjamin, Daisy, Zoe, Alice, Raphael and Emma. This week has also seen some super events to bring the children together across Pre-Prep and Prep, with Buddy Meetings taking place, and our Class Partnerships programme saw groups celebrating reading together during the ‘Pyjamarama’ event – a new initiative organised by our Librarian, Mrs Haywood.

In Prep, we very much believe in giving the senior pupils the chance to explore opportunities for trips near and far, related to the curriculum and making connections into the community. Tuesday saw the Year 7 boys head to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) for their Discovery Day, just on the edge of Bushy Park, taking part in STEM activities, science talks and even a special ‘Escape Room’! That same day, Year 8 climbed the O2 to take in the London skyline and then rode the cable car across the Thames as part of their series of leavers’ events; I gather a serious head for heights was needed, given the challenge!

Finally, I wanted to make special mention of 6G’s superb leavers’ assembly, led by Mrs Gliniecka, which focused on the theme of ‘resilience’ and overcoming the challenges that life throws at you. The children reflected with incredible honesty and maturity on their personal challenges, providing a brilliant lesson to us all on the ways in which we can help ourselves and others to ‘bounce back’. We look forward to celebrating all our leavers in these final weeks of the Summer Term.
