Headmaster’s Update and a Message from the Chair of Governors
Our final week of the year has been a wonderful celebration with a host of events to mark the children’s successes this year and to look to the horizon with new beginnings in September.
On Monday, the whole school gathered to witness the presentation of certificates for the huge number of children who have voluntarily completed the Junior Duke Programme, run by Mrs Kidson, all the way from Reception (Micro Duke), through Mini Duke to Year 6 (Junior Duke – Platinum). It was fantastic to recognise the children’s commitment to learning new skills and we hope for record numbers taking part again next year! We’ve hosted two Celebration of Achievement events, with Tuesday’s ceremony focussing on Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and Thursday’s afternoon event, recognising the talents and progress of the Year 3, 4 and 5 children. It was heartening to hear the amazing achievements of the pupils, allied to the ways in which they have contributed to the school. Last night’s Prizegiving was a wonderful way to celebrate Years 6, 7 and 8, with a strong focus on our leavers, some of whom have been at TPS for 9 years! We were delighted to welcome back former pupil, Miss Roshni Amitha, as our special guest to present the prizes, who spoke about how her foundation at TPS has helped her on her path since, heading on to Tiffin School and then Merton College at Oxford to study PPE.
To quote Roshni:
“I think we can all agree that the first word which comes to mind about TPS is ‘warmth’. I truly felt that since my first day here, I was surrounded by love, kindness, friendship and encouragement. And I can see that legacy has been continued on by all of you.”
Aside from the celebratory events, Wednesday evening saw paired fixtures in rounders and cricket with the leavers determined to better the parents! It was enormous fun to see such spirit at Kempton, amidst lusty blows, some nimble catching and pacy bowling. A strong sense of competition was in evidence and I still remain unclear as to who took the spoils in the cricket! Thank you so much to our sports staff for hosting this lovely event and to the catering team for the delicious BBQ to bring a truly perfect evening to a close.
As we reach the end of the week, it is with a tinge of sadness we say farewell to departing colleagues: Miss Hemmings, Mrs Hill, Mrs Goodchild, Mrs Gliniecka and Mrs Wilson, all of whom have given amazing service to the school and will be sorely missed. We wish them well for the future and offer thanks for their huge contributions to the life of the school in their respective times at TPS.
It remains for me to express my thanks to everyone in our school community – parents, teaching and support staff, governors and the children for making this year such a successful one. Have a very enjoyable and restful summer break and see you for the next chapter!
Oliver Barrett, Headmaster
On behalf of the Governors, I’d like to wish everyone a very enjoyable and relaxing summer following what can only be described as an action packed Summer Term!! In fact, the whole school year seems to have flown by. In each of our celebration events Mr Barrett has summarised the events for each class in every term – what an incredible year!!!
Last night our guest speaker at the Year 6, 7 and 8 Prizegiving was Roshni Amitha, a former pupil of TPS who has just completed her degree in PPE at Oxford University. Roshni spoke very eloquently about her time at TPS and how the school prepared her for her future steps, and gave her a real love of learning.
This was followed by two incredible speeches by Elsie and Aryan, our Head Girl and Head Boy. They described what TPS means to them with great eloquence and humour. They referenced their highlights over the years, and the fun they’ve had.
I’d like to wish all those pupils who are leaving TPS my best wishes for the future – we sincerely hope that you will stay in touch with us!!
Similarly, I also send my best wishes to those members of staff who are leaving TPS today, we will miss them.
Finally, I’d like to thank all our staff for their dedication and commitment this year, and for making this year so special for the children.
I wish you all a lovely summer break!!
Harry Bates, Chair of Governors
