    Headmaster’s Update

Our final week of the Spring Term has certainly been a busy and fulfilling one, suitably packed with a host of fun activities to send the children off for their well-deserved Easter break.

We’ve seen our younger pupils enjoy several trips this week, with Year 3 heading to Butser Ancient Farm in the stunning South Downs on Monday, studying the Celts. The children experienced wattle fence-making and jewellery making, made their own chalk-carving and took part in an archaeological dig. They had a fantastic day which was topped off when they got to meet Emily, a six week old lamb!

Meanwhile, Years 1 and 2 went to Gunnersbury Park on Tuesday, a TPS favourite given the quality of the experience. Year 1 visited the Victorian kitchen where the boys dressed in waistcoats and the girls wore mob caps and aprons to lend a hand in the kitchen and laundry. Year 1 also looked at toys from the past, learning about materials used to make dolls and about how toys have evolved over time. The children loved playing traditional games such as, ‘keeper of the keys’. Year 2 took part in Great Fire of London and Florence Nightingale storytelling workshops. The children got to dress-up and role-play as key people during the Great Fire and Crimean War as well as handle replicas of objects from the time – great fun! Similarly, Reception had a wonderful time at Bockett’s Park Farm that same day, seeing a host of farm animals and enjoying the delights of a tractor ride!

After the excitement of the trips, Wednesday saw the four TPS Houses celebrate our inaugural House Colours Day, and the House Captains ran special games at breaktimes to raise money for our nominated school charity, African Vision Malawi and Songwe School. The event raised in excess of £400, which will make a huge difference to our partner school, the teachers and the children there.

Of course, the Year 5 and 6 children have been working tirelessly to prepare for the end-of-term spectacular, ‘Oliver with a Twist’ performed brilliantly to a packed house last night in our main hall. It’s a privilege to see the pupils at their best, showing huge composure and presence to sing, dance and act to such a high standard. Well done to all the children and to Mrs Lintin, Mrs Harris, Mrs Freeman, Mrs Harber and Ms Burton for their oversight and all-round inspiration. As an added bonus, we even had the chance to see Miss Harris’s Cheer team perform their spectacular routines that same afternoon  – what a talented bunch!

If that wasn’t enough excitement for the end of the term,  I am lucky enough to be travelling out to Jersey with the girls and boys from Years 5 and 6 this weekend to take part in our 2026 Sports Tour. Wish us well as we fly the flag for TPS against the local opposition, enjoying competitive hockey and football overseas, alongside some cultural experiences too. It should be a very memorable trip and great fun and we will come back with some tales to tell.

May I wish all of our families a very happy Easter break.

    Oliver Barrett, Headmaster

    TPS Bushy Park Easter Walk

TPS has created a fun and interactive trail through the woodland plantations in Bushy Park. Starting and finishing at the Pheasantry, this 4km walk invites children to become explorers—following a map, solving clues, and uncovering answers along the way!

Once the adventure is complete, there’s a short online quiz to test their discoveries. Every child who takes part will earn a special badge, awarded in next term’s celebration assembly—so don’t miss out!

Attached here: Bushy Park Easter Walk you’ll find the map, route details, and quiz questions, all ready to print at home. Paper copies will also be available by the school information board over the next three days leading up to the Easter holidays.

We hope you have a fun time exploring, solving clues, and enjoying the great outdoors together!
