Headmaster’s Update
I cannot help but start this week’s round up by making special mention of our senior girls’ netball team, who have set new standards of excellence this year in their performances in practices, matches and tournaments, achieving some of the best results on record. Last Friday saw Amber, Claudia, Alice, Anisha, Lisa, Tabitha and Harriet play superbly at the IAPS Netball Tournament at Royal Russell School, finishing 2nd in the pool stages before going all the way through to the final to lose narrowly 6-4 to James Allen’s Prep in the final. Congratulations to the whole team and to Miss Burton for her expert coaching.
After the netball success, we’ve dived into the amazing variety of events which have formed Mrs Kidson’s remarkable ‘Junior Duke Week’. Teachers and parents have kindly shared their skills to run a host of activities to develop the children’s skills and knowledge. Activities have included: CPR training, knot tying, flag making, hand washing clothes, skipping, strategy games, car washing and first aid, showing the huge range on offer. Thank you to everyone involved! To add to the focus on important practical skills, it’s been fantastic to see all the Year 6 children complete their Bikeability training this week, ensuring that they have the confidence and awareness to travel safely on the busy local roads in the future.
On Tuesday, our Prep singers had the incredible opportunity to travel to the O2 to take part in the ‘Young Voices’ extravaganza, along with over 8000 other children from across the country. Our Head of Music, Mrs Harris reported that the TPS singers were absolutely exceptional from start to finish – beautifully behaved, full of energy and a real credit to the school, whilst showing some rather impressive dance moves! Thank you to the staff who accompanied the children and to all the parents who made the journey to see the evening performance in Greenwich.
Finally, this week I would like to congratulate all of the children who took part in our House competition, organised by the School Council, to design an animation, poster, film or model to represent the School Value of being ‘Courteous’. Our winners were Alice, Micah, Erin and Willow, with Concorde receiving a special Merit bonus for the most entries. Congratulations one and all!
Oliver Barrett, Headmaster
