Weekly Bulletin 25th April 2025

This week:

    Headmaster’s Update

May I offer a warm welcome back to everyone for the best time of the year at TPS – the summer term!  It’s been a treat to see all the children and hear their news from the Easter holidays and there’s certainly a great energy about the exciting events planned for the weeks ahead.

My break commenced by accompanying the senior girls and boys on a fabulous Sports Tour to Manchester, staying at the Hilton at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground over an extended weekend. Highlights included training sessions for our netballers with the Manchester Thunder coaches and seeing the first team play, whilst our footballers trained in the Manchester City training complex, just next door to where Pep Guardiola coaches the first team! We had a great trip to watch a WSL game involving Manchester United and Everton, visited the National Football Stadium and toured the Etihad. The girls and boys also enjoyed fixtures against local club sides, experiencing the special nature of playing competitive sport on tour with friends. I must congratulate all of the tour party for being such great ambassadors for TPS and offer my thanks to Miss Burton, Mr Jervis and Mrs Hepburn for organising such a brilliant, memorable trip. I wonder where our next senior sports tour will go?

Continuing the sporting theme, in school we focused on the concept of ‘fair play’ in our whole school assembly, linking this ideal to the spirit of cricket, the Olympic values and FIFA fair play. We looked at examples of great sportsmanship, including triathlete Alistair Brownlee carrying his brother in order to finish a race in Mexico and Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D’Agostino, who helped one another after a fall in an Olympic 5000m heat.  The message to the children was all about the human values that transcend sport and to remember these and our school values even in the most heated and competitive situations!

Last night, we were delighted to welcome Beth Kerr a leading educator, speaker and commentator on health and wellbeing for young people, who gave a talk here at school in our series of presentations to parents relating to digital wellbeing. In partnership with Miss Jones, Beth explored how children can take meaningful ownership of their digital journey and how we can equip them best for success, looking closely at the research in this area and how parents can establish the right conversations with their children. Please do look out for Beth’s presentation slides on My School Portal and remember that we provide weekly updates relating to online safety and digital wellbeing as part of the Bulletin via MSP, with lots of helpful news, tips and resources.

Class Photos – Tuesday 29th April

On Tuesday 29th April ‘formal’ class photos will be taken here at school!

All pupils must come to school smartly presented in summer uniform (including blazers). Please also take the opportunity to ensure your child’s hair is smart, tied up if long and presentable.

Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 have PE on a Tuesday, but on this date please send them in full summer uniform (including blazers) and make sure they bring their PE kit and trainers in a separate bag to change into.

A reminder that we rotate each year between these more ‘formal’ class photos and the more casual ‘fun’ type of class photos.
