Headmaster’s Update
It’s been a fantastic start to the Summer Term proceedings this week at TPS and we’ve been blessed with sunshine to bathe the school in warmth, hopefully indicating what’s to come throughout the term! On Wednesday, we started proceedings with the whole school photograph when staff and pupils gathered on the front lawn to capture another milestone in the School’s history. I must mention just how wonderful the school grounds look at this time of the year, thanks to Mr Niehaus’ oversight and leadership, helping create such an inspiring environment for us to work and learn in.
Despite the short week, we’ve held two assemblies; the first was a celebration of playwright William Shakespeare, given his birthday is celebrated on 23rd April, and we explored his extraordinary contribution to modern language, his family and upbringing and the richness of the characters he created in his plays. We even held an ‘insult-off’ where pairs of children traded Shakespearean insults, with the winners announced by our judges! Today featured a special Celebration Assembly where we recognised over fifty children who completed Mrs Hepburn’s brilliant Bushy Park Easter walk initiative with the presentation of special badges. We also found out the final results for the national final of the Primary Maths Challenge, with Hanna, Kellen, Edward and Nils all achieving remarkable scores, with the latter two Year 6 children being presented with bronze and silver certificates, placing them all amongst some of the top scores nationally – wow!
Aside from celebrating our wonderful children, it was great fun for the school to host our TPSC Parents’ Quiz last night in the main hall, thanks to Rob and Claudia who hosted the event, marshalling some very spirited and competitive teams during proceedings! Please do remember that the work of the TPSC in running social events is vital for the school in terms of the community building aspect and fundraising for the school, benefitting the children directly. Mrs Denye deserves a pat on the back for her tireless efforts at the helm of the TPSC – this week alone she has managed a second-hand uniform sale and all the logistics around the Quiz Night preparations.
Finally, this week, may I offer my best wishes to the children taking part in two very different but exciting events this weekend: firstly to the group of children taking part in the IAPS E-Sports World Championship qualifier and, secondly, to all of those taking part in the TCS London Mini Marathon tomorrow afternoon, with the challenge of completing a 1 mile course around St James’s Park finishing on The Mall. It should be a very special day for TPS!
