Headmaster’s Update
In this penultimate week of the Spring Term, we’ve been very busy enjoying a huge variety of special events and celebrations, reflecting the rich diversity of opportunities at TPS. On Monday, we were treated to a visit by our friend Reverend Ben Lovell from St Mary’s who launched the week with a thought-provoking assembly all about friendship and the qualities that we look for in others. Later in the week we marked Persian New Year, Nowruz, in Pre-Prep with Mrs Barnes exploring the festivities, symbolism, food and traditions which take place around the time of the Spring Equinox.
On the sports pitches, there’s been a host of fantastic fixtures but I do want to make special mention of the U10 A boys who took part in the rugby tournament last Saturday at Donhead. The boys put in a superb series of performances, demonstrating skill, resilience and exceptional teamwork throughout the day, achieving some super results against the strongest teams in the local area, including RGS and KCS Wimbledon. Beyond their performances on the field, the team spirit and camaraderie were exceptional. Every player gave their all for the team, and their sportsmanship and commitment to representing the school were exemplary. Well done to Angus, Jack, Kellen, Freddie, Ernie, Milo, Edward, Logan, Ed and Max and our inspirational coaches, Mr Sagar and Mr Jervis.
I’m often taken by the confidence and composure of the boys and girls at TPS and this was very much in evidence when I had the pleasure of accompanying Freddie, Nicole and Jack to Epsom College on Wednesday for the Year 5 Public Speaking Competition. Our team of expert orators, prepared by Mrs Kidson and Mrs Lintin were superb on the day and we really enjoyed hearing talks from around 20 schools on topics such as Lego, reading, mental health and our subject: the art of puns. I am delighted to share news that Freddie won the best speech of any on the day!
There’s been a breakfast theme too this week at TPS, with Year 3 and 4 delivering a fabulous production of ‘Porridge’ on Thursday afternoon to a packed auditorium. The children’s remarkable stage presence, team work and acting made for a feast for the eyes and the ears and had the audience in raptures. I must offer a huge thank you to all my talented colleagues who helped prepare the children, including Mrs Lintin, Miss Maddison, Mrs Hill, Miss Burton and also Mrs Freeman for the fantastic array of props. Immediately after, we transformed the hall to a sea of red, white and blue to set the scene for Friday’s French themed Mothers’ Day breakfast extravaganza. Our amazing moustached Year 8 ‘serveurs’ treated our special guests, before they marvelled at a pair of perfectly choreographed dance performances from the Year 6 girls and Year 8 boys. Thank you so much to all the girls and boys who performed and to Mrs Gliniecka, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Walls, Miss Cassiano and Miss Harris for making the magic happen!
Oliver Barrett, Headmaster

Parent Volunteers – Careers Talks
Over the past few years, we have looked to the TPS Community to see if you would be interested in volunteering to support the school, specifically in the areas of careers guidance for older pupils and/or involvement in school talks and assemblies. This might be to share your expertise and insight from your workplace, or to share your experiences, interests and achievements. There may be the chance to work with the children on creative tasks. We hope that by establishing a database of interests, we can enhance the learning opportunities for the children and also address aspects of diversity, equality and stereotyping by presenting a world full of opportunity.
If this is something that may be of interest to you, please complete the form using the link here, https://forms.office.com/e/W5WfLCm7vb . If you did complete the form previously, and you are still interested, please can you still complete the form so that the details are up to date.
For your information, the format to the careers guidance is structured along the lines of:
- Session length: 45 – 60 minutes long
- Short presentation – how you came to be in your role, the journey you took from school to where you are now
- Workshop (optional) – to give a flavour of what you might have to do in your work place if appropriate
- Q & A (10 minutes)
If the form can be completed by Friday 28th March 2025, that would be wonderful. Thank you in advance.
