Weekly Bulletin 20th June 2025

This week:

    Headmaster’s Update

This gloriously warm week has certainly been one of the most exciting and action-packed in my time at TPS!  We’ve had so many extraordinary events across the school this week and it’s been a privilege to see the children excel and be at their best.

We’ve seen the children embark on two fantastic trips this week: on Monday, Year 5 had a very memorable journey all the way to Warwick Castle, seeing firing trebuchets, observing a host of birds of prey and exploring the incredible castle and grounds, even witnessing live jousting! Year 1’s trip to Nower Wood on Tuesday was also a great success, seeing them enjoy a practical science-based experience, including pond-dipping, whilst studying the flora and fauna at the centre near Headley in the Surrey Hills.

Back at school, this time of the year sees the children in Years 3-6 finish the series of workshops and presentations for our BOUNCE programme, led by Dr Kate Robinson and Dr Sara Wilson in partnership with Mrs Harber. The culmination of this important PSHE module saw the groups celebrate their learning and growing self-awareness in the early part of the week, developing the children’s mindfulness and imparting the skills and knowledge to become more resilient. We’ve also witnessed the final outcomes from other key projects for our older pupils: the Year 6 children with Miss Jones put on their ‘Fiver Challenge’ Enterprise Fair on Monday, setting up stalls to showcase their products, raffles and games to achieve a return on a modest initial investment – indeed, I have first-hand experience of the rather impressive selling skills of the many entrepreneurs in Year 6. Those of us who headed to the PSB Exhibition were incredibly impressed with the standard of the presentations of the Year 8 boys who explained their projects on varied topics, such as the use of AI in music-making; crypto-currency, the plight of polar bears; ADHD and the Blitzkrieg warfare tactic used by the Germans in World War II.  It was a brilliant showcase for the skills that our senior pupils develop, whilst also emphasising their remarkable depth of knowledge and assured confidence when taking questions and exploring such mature themes. Well done to all of the boys in Year 8.

The assembly programme continued this week with Miss Maddison’s class 3M delivering a rather ‘tasty’ affair, when exploring the theme of food, farming and healthy eating. It was fascinating to learn about the ‘food miles’ for the common foods we buy and the message from the children was for us to be more mindful, thinking about seasonal produce. Of course, we’ve also really enjoyed hosting three Sports Day events this week, with the senior pupils competing at Xcel in Walton on Wednesday in great spirit and today’s events at Kempton with Pre-Prep and Years 3 and 4 have been, similarly, a true celebration of sporting endeavour. Well done to all the children for taking part with such gusto!

It is only fitting that I also mention the incredible Summer Soirée directed by our immensely talented Head of Music, Mrs Hill. It was a fitting finale to her oversight of music at TPS to see the School Hall jam packed with musicians at the top of their game, showing that Mrs Hill’s legacy will be to have inspired so many children to love making music with their friends. Additionally I must say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of our visiting music teachers too, who also made the evening such a special tribute to Mrs Hill.

    Message from the Library!

As we approach the end of term, please could all pupils return any TPS Library books they have borrowed before the end of term. This helps us get everything ready for next year and ensure no books go missing over the summer. Thank you for your help – and happy holiday reading!
