Headmaster’s Update
This first full week of the Summer Term has seen the commencement of the clubs’ programme and it’s been great to see so much variety on offer across the age phases. For Pre-Prep, activities this term include Drawing Club, Construction Club, LAMDA and even Skateboarding Club, whilst the Prep children are enjoying Minecraft Club, Tag Rugby, Cooking Club, Drum Club and French Boules! A new activity on Thursday morning, Little Musketeers, which sees the children learn the noble art of fencing in our main school hall, looked great fun – I wonder if they might offer a staff club too?! There’s no doubt that the wide range of after-school, lunchtime and early-morning activities enhances the offering at TPS and gives the children the chance to broaden their horizons through learning new skills.
Our Whole School Assembly this week celebrated the Year 5 and Year 6 Sports Tour to Jersey which took place over the Easter break. The children and staff had a brilliant time playing matches against local hockey (girls) and football (boys) clubs, whilst also enjoying undertaking some sight seeing too. We had a fantastic trip to the Jersey War Tunnels, seeing the striking impact of German occupation between 1940 and 1945 on the island, whilst also enjoying an evening bowling trip, beach games and a very popular session in the water park next to our hotel in the capital, St Helier. I am enormously grateful to Mr Jervis, Ms Burton and Mrs Hepburn for organising the trip and it was a pleasure to see the children enjoy the thrill of sporting competition whilst away with their friends.
In Pre-Prep, the assembly focus this week has been all about the environment with World Earth Day, celebrated in Spring each year. Mrs Barnes explored the challenges facing wildlife given global warming and the growing impact of microplastics in food chains and how human activity can be harmful. It was great to explore ways in which we can help through the principles of ‘reuse, reduce and recycle’ and to prepare for our Conservation Day, planned for Thursday 7th May next week to mark David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. We welcome children’s entries to Mrs Mills’s photo competition to show how we can support conservation and our environment, so please encourage your child to use the Bank Holiday weekend to get some super snaps!
The Hub this week has been a very busy place with pottery workshops for Years 3, 6 and 8 with our visiting artist Juliet Whiterod and our Hub Open House event for Year 5 parents on Tuesday. We were very impressed with the work displays and it was a pleasure to hear from the Senior Prep pupils, who were effusive about their project work in their final years at TPS.
In last week’s Bulletin I mentioned that we had a team taking part in the Daigon E-Sports World Championship Qualifier last Saturday and I am delighted to report that TPS came second, seeing our top team qualify for this very prestigious international event! Many congratulations to Freddie L, Edward T, Sai, Logan, Oscar H and Miss Jones for their phenomenal achievement.
Have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend!
Oliver Barrett, Headmaster

Conservation Day at TPS – Celebrating David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday
TPS will be holding a Conservation Day on Thursday 7th May to celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. To mark the occasion, there will be a non-uniform day with an animal theme which will raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund. Throughout the day, pupils will take part in a range of lessons focused on conservation and protecting our natural world.

Alongside this TPS is also holding a conservation competition, see attached poster.
