Headmaster’s Update
As we near the end of the summer term, we’ve hosted and run a wonderful week of celebratory events which has seen the children and the staff at their very best. Firstly, I am sure I speak for all the fathers when offering my thanks to Ms Cassiano and the team for the Barbeque Breakfast on Monday morning, suitably marking Father’s Day at TPS with the most delicious of breakfasts served by the Year 8 boys. Yum! That same day, there was an excited throng outside in the playground with the Year 6 children running the Enterprise Fair, seeking to make a profit through setting up stalls which saw very creative money making endeavours as part of the ‘Fiver Challenge’; I came away with a rather fancy bookmark and a beautifully illustrated piece of artwork. Well done to all of the children for their impressive teamwork and creative endeavours, with over £600 raised for charity.
On Tuesday, Mrs Openshaw, Mrs Hepburn and Mr Edwards escorted Year 6 to the Thames Explorer Centre, to study the River Thames and the human and physical geography of this great waterway and explore the foreshore. That same day, Mrs Kidson hosted superb Shakespeare workshops at TPS for our Year 5 boys and girls, focused on the play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Many lucky staff, parents and governors visited the PSB exhibition that afternoon at the Hub, with the Year 8 boys sharing their remarkable PSPQ projects, which explored diverse themes, such as colour-blindness, the evolution of freestyle skiing and the use of carbon-fibre composites within race car design. It was so impressive to hear such depth of knowledge expressed and to see the Senior Prep boys so confident, passionate and erudite in explaining their research and findings.
As we near the end of the year, there are numerous leavers’ events to allow the children to reflect on their time at TPS and celebrate their contribution. It was fantastic to see the Year 8s share their retrospective take on Wednesday morning, through a very humorous play written by Mr Howorth, and to host parents of our leavers in Year 6 and Year 8 on Wednesday evening for a special TPS supper. Yesterday, we held celebration of music with Ms Barnes masterminding the Prep Summer Music Showcase, with super recitals from the Chamber and Prep Choirs, String Ensemble, Guitar Group and the Djembe drummers, not to mention Toby and Rafael’s solo pieces. Thank you to all of the children for entertaining us so royally and to the peripatetic music team for preparing the children for their big night.
Of course, our Sports Days are real highlight for the children at the end of the year and we’ve also really enjoyed hosting three events, with the senior pupils competing at Xcel in Walton on Wednesday in great spirit and today’s events at Kempton with Pre-Prep and Years 3 and 4 have been, similarly, a true celebration of sporting endeavour. Well done to all the children for taking part with such TPS spirit in the warm sunshine!
Next week, we look forward to an action packed residential trip week so good luck to all the children and staff from Year 4 up to Year 8 as they head off, far and wide!

TPS Art Club offers a creative and calming environment where children can explore a wide range of artistic techniques. Summer Holiday Touch Typing Course at TPS
