Weekly Bulletin 15th May 2026

This week:

    Headmaster’s Update

Earlier this term we celebrated Shakespeare’s extraordinary contribution to literature and language and this week we started with an assembly all about another literary great, Edward Lear, also a very talented musician and draughtsman.  We celebrated World Limerick Day, held annually on the 12th May, to honour Lear’s birthday, given that he popularised limericks as short poems, often written with a humorous theme.  Today’s Celebration Assembly showcased a number of examples, penned by pupils and staff, so well done to everyone who showed their creative side!  Continuing the assembly theme, it was wonderful to witness Mrs Barnes’ assembly yesterday which focussed on endangered species and wildlife, continuing on from our Conservation Day last week.  Did you know that the mountain gorilla is one of the most endangered animals in the world?

Of course, the school has been a little quieter this week, given that our first residential trip took place. Year 3 had a wonderful time at Marchants Hill near Hindhead, taking on team and individual challenges across the beautiful woodland site. I am especially pleased to report that the PGL staff commented very positively on the children’s engagement, determination and good manners and that the Year 3 staff reported that they enjoyed a full uninterrupted night’s sleep! Thank you very much indeed to Mrs Jelfs, Mrs Engelhardt, Mr Chatzidavaris and Miss Maddison for leading the trip and making the trip such a success. Indeed, these opportunities for the children to travel and broaden their horizons, learning to be independent and resilient, are vital for healthy happy development. We are all very much looking forward to the host of residential trips for Year 4 to Year 8 in late June.
