Headmaster’s Update
There’s been a buzz of excitement throughout this week, given that we’ve been avidly following events taking place in the Science Lab, with Mrs Mills welcoming into the world a host of ducklings, as part of our National Science Week celebrations. This year’s theme is ‘Change and Adaptation’, so we’ve explored all sorts of examples through our assembly programme with Mrs Barnes looking at the remarkable life cycle of a butterfly with Pre-Prep and our Whole School Assembly on Monday focusing on camouflage and mimicry. It’s remarkable how nature comes up with such incredible ways for animals to thrive in their natural habitats, such as the zebra’s stripes, which ensure that predators struggle to identify individual animals in a herd and cephalopods, like octopuses, able to blend in through changing pigment colours in their skin. I must also make special mention of RH who delivered a brilliant assembly about Mini Beasts, showing such enthusiam and knowledge about nature. Well done Miss Hemmings!
Aside from our scientific focus, we’ve been very pleased to celebrate the International Day of Mathematics this Friday, which coincides neatly with National Pi Day. As part of the celebrations, the Year 2 and Year 8 children have been devising their own stories to explain mathematical concepts, the younger children looking at the concept of division with children sitting in pairs on a rollercoaster (Divide and Ride!) and the senior boys exploring Pythagoras’ theorem. We had some wonderfully creative entries, and congratulations to the prize winners: Luca, Oscar and Rosie in Year 2 and Sebastian, Eamon and Harry in Year 8. Proving further that enthusiasm and excellence in mathematics are to be seen across the school at TPS, I must also mention the super successes of our Year 6 mathematicians who achieved Bronze (Eloise and Beatrice) and Silver (Joshua and Elsie) in the final of the Primary Maths Challenge, a national competition for only the most accomplished mathematicians. I am sure these four will embrace Mrs Clough’s challenge to everyone to memorise as many digits as possible of the irrational number, Pi, before Monday! Here’s a start for you: 3.1415926535
In other news, the Music and Art departments have also had busy weeks, with Mrs Hill’s Spring Teatime Concert taking place on Wednesday, showcasing a whole host of accomplished individual performances, and we’ve loved welcoming potter Juliet Whiterod to TPS who has worked with Mrs Freeman’s Year 6 groups to explore organic forms and the Year 8 class to produce tribal masks. We very much look forward to seeing the final pieces!

REMINDER: A Breakfast Celebration of Mothers at TPS
Deadline for booking is 4pm on Monday 17th March
We are delighted to once again be hosting breakfast for Mums, Grandmothers and female Carers to mark Mothers’ Day 2025!
Mums, Grandmothers and female Carers are cordially invited to our French Café for breakfast on Friday 21st March from 8.30am until 9.30am in the School Hall (please arrive promptly!). Our Senior Prep pupils are very excited to be using their French language skills to serve you breakfast. We will be offering complimentary pastries, coffee, tea and juice. There will also be some entertainment to help the morning go with a swing!
This is an opportunity for TPS Mums, Grandmothers and female Carers to catch up and take some time to be together, so on this occasion the TPS pupils will head off to registration while you are treated and entertained in the Hall. We understand that some babes in arms and pre-schoolers accompany families at drop-off, so please know that they are welcome at the event.
It is imperative that we know numbers for catering, so if you would like to join us please book your places by 4pm on Monday 17th March via the form on My School Portal:
Please click on the ‘Forms’ section in your child’s profile and then click on the ‘Mothers’ Day Breakfast’ form.
You will also be able to add a gluten free option on the booking form – we must know this information in advance so that we are able to order in sufficient quantities.
If you are not booked in, we are sorry but we won’t be able to admit you to this breakfast event.

Science Department News…Ducklings Hatched!
In Science this week, we have had an exciting experience with five duck eggs arriving at TPS ready to hatch! So far four of the eggs have hatched and the ducklings are well and enjoying everyone’s company. We are hopeful that the fifth egg will hatch soon! Do check out our social media posts for some adorable photos. Having enjoyed their time in Prep this week, the ducklings will be taken care of by Mrs Mills over the weekend and will go to Pre-Prep on Monday to meet the children. We have had lots of interesting conversations about ducklings and especially how they change and adapt which is very appropriate for British Science Week.
Science Competition:
Some interesting Science Week Competition entries have already been submitted by the pupils, and we look forward to receiving more before the deadline, Monday 17th March.
