Headmaster’s Update
This year at TPS we have seen the children engage in a host of new educational experiences and trips, taking advantage of our close proximity to so many fantastic opportunities in and around London. Examples include the Senior Prep trips to Highgate Cemetery, the Mini Factory in Oxford and Bletchley Park, all of which were highly praised by the children for future years. This week saw Year 4 head to Kew Gardens on Tuesday to take part in a maths-focused outdoor learning experience, where the children used the spectacular and stimulating grounds of Kew throughout the day to solve mathematical problems, undertake practical hands-on activities, record observations and collect and present data. Nature and mathematics – what a fantastic combination.
Meanwhile, our Year 5 children loved their trip to the Polka Theatre on Thursday, to see ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ a humorous exploration of the book by Maz Evans, telling the story of Elliot Hooper’s quest to save the world with some help from the deities! Only today, our Year 6 girls and boys headed to Hampton School for a Science STEM fair with Mrs Mills, as part of our focus on British Science Week. A highlight for many children at TPS and staff this week has been witnessing the 5 duckling eggs hatching in the Science Lab and I can report all are healthy and happy, noticeably adding to the excitement and noise in the Beveree building!
The Spring Term at TPS always has a strong focus on drama and performance and we have twin showcases taking place in the next fortnight on our stage, with Years 3 and 4 readying for next week and Year 5 and 6 doing the same for the final week of term. It’s been brilliant to see the children rehearsing and so please do make time to come for the main shows towards the end of the term. This week of course, it was the turn of our fantastically talented Reception children to take charge of the stage, with Miss McVey and Mrs Openshaw and RM delivering a remarkable class assembly all about Mother’s Day. The children shared their messages of love and appreciation, whilst also exploring celebratory messages in a host of languages, along with dances, poetry recitals and songs. There were lovely links to Mother Earth and the new life we witness in nature each Spring.
Finally, this week I would like to offer my personal congratulations to our Year 6 cohort, who have all successfully secured places at their chosen senior schools, with the 40 children achieving multiple offers and, overall, a total of 21 scholarships across the disciplines of art, music, sport, drama and academics. Well done to all the children and of course, to our parents and teachers for helping the children truly be at their very best.
Oliver Barrett, Headmaster
