Sporting excellence.
At Twickenham Prep School, sport is more than just an activity—it’s a core part of every child’s growth and development.
Our diverse sports programme is designed to inspire all children to explore new activities, build skills, and realise their full potential.
Through a blend of physical training and teamwork, we cultivate resilience, discipline, and a life-long love of sport.
Early Years and Pre-Prep
From the earliest years, our students benefit from specialist-led sports instruction, with Pre-Prep pupils enjoying two lessons a week focused on foundational skills. P.E. sessions in Reception and Year 1 introduce a range of activities including dance, gymnastics, and athletics, while Games lessons build core skills in agility, coordination, and balance. In Year 2, pupils begin learning the fundamentals of our main school sports, preparing them for competitive fixtures starting in Year 3.

Prep School (Years 3-6)
Starting in Year 3, pupils participate in dedicated P.E. and Games sessions each week. P.E. lessons introduce them to a variety of sports, from basketball and badminton to gymnastics and athletics, promoting versatility and a balanced skill set. Swimming lessons in Years 3 and 4, held at the nearby Hampton Open Air Pool, help further develop pupils’ strength and confidence in the water.
Games lessons focus on school sports, including football, rugby, cricket, netball, and hockey, utilising the 10-acre site at Kempton Cricket Club and local hockey pitches.

We prioritise inclusivity and ensure that every pupil, regardless of skill level, participates in competitive matches against other schools.
Additional opportunities to compete in swimming, cross country, and athletics are available through local tournaments, while house events such as House Cross Country, Swimming Galas, and Sports Day foster a sense of community and healthy competition.
Senior Prep (Years 7-8)
In Senior Prep, boys engage in two Games afternoons each week, with regular matches in football, rugby, and cricket. They also receive squash coaching at Colets Health Club and enjoy tennis and padel at Imber Court during the summer.

Sports Tour
All our Senior boys and Year 5 and 6 girls are invited to attend an annual sports tour – recent tours have seen the pupils training with the football coaches of PSV Eindhoven and Manchester City for the boys, Oranje Rood Hockey Club and Manchester Thunder Netball for the girls. These trips offer excellent opportunities for the children to receive top-level coaching and to play local club sides, representing their school.

Extra-Curricular Clubs
Our extra-curricular sports clubs offer pupils the chance to explore new interests and deepen their skills. From cheerleading and dodgeball to tennis and specialised clubs for main sports, our programmes—led by both staff and expert external coaches—enrich our pupils’ sports experience at TPS.
