Art & DT

Art and Design Technology are highly valued and exciting components of our curriculum.

Our lessons aim to stimulate pupils’ creativity and imagination, enabling them to communicate their observations, thoughts and feelings through the use of colour, form, pattern and a wide variety of materials and processes.

Our Pre-Prep pupils are introduced to art and design technology within their classrooms through a topic-based approach, inspiring them to engage with various art materials while exploring the works of other artists alongside their own creative ideas.

The art room, based at The Hub, our newly renovated building, just across the road from the main school site, buzzes with activity not only during lessons but also hosts clubs and scholarship lessons as well as our popular Holiday Art Club. These well-resourced art and design technology facilities provide a spacious teaching area equipped with specialist tools and equipment, utilised weekly by pupils from Year 3 and upwards.

To further enhance their learning experience, pupils investigate the techniques of renowned artists and designers, visit art galleries, and partake in workshops. Our art department also offers a variety of extra-curricular clubs and maintains strong links with local designers and artists, who collaborate with us to enrich our teaching.

Pupils take great pride in displaying and exhibiting their work throughout the school and in the school magazine, which contributes to TPS’s vibrant environment. The children are encouraged to embrace the notion that everyone is a unique artist.

In Design Technology (DT), we prepare our pupils for participation in the rapidly changing world of tomorrow.

We empower them to become discerning consumers and potential innovators. Through the development of skills with a diverse range of tools and materials, pupils are encouraged to think creatively and become autonomous problem solvers. Our DT projects focus on helping pupils to identify their ideas and abilities, guiding them to create purposeful products.

Above all, our art and DT spaces offer a sanctuary for exploration and creativity, allowing pupils to unwind, express themselves, and immerse their imaginations in the joy of artistic discovery…
