Twickenham Preparatory School was founded on Twickenham Green in the Baptist Church Hall in 1969 by a group of parents, who were supposedly unhappy that the school was to be sold (with the new owner taking over from revered Headmaster, Reverend Donald Hill). So a group of parents decided to start a new school with Reverend Hill invited to be the Headmaster!
1971
From the outset, TPS was intended to be a school largely run by parents with many volunteering to help with events and creating opportunities for the children. The school moved to a permanent building opposite Twickenham Green soon afterwards, before becoming co-educational in 1971.
1992 – 1995
In 1992, with around 100 pupils enrolled, the school moved to its new home in Hampton: the ‘Beveree’, a Grade II listed building linked historically to Sir John Blow, the King’s Musician during the reign of Charles II.
The school continued to grow in size, with the addition of a purpose-built Pre-Prep building in 1995, with dedicated outdoor learning areas for every class. A new hall was built with a stage facility for productions, along with a dedicated kitchen with dining room and pupil changing facilities and cloakrooms.

2012 – 2014
In 2012, a new music and arts centre was added, named after Peter Jenkinson, a former governor and parent, along with a new amphitheatre, sports pitch and a nature trail.
2014 saw the school embark on an exciting new partnership with Kempton Cricket Club to establish the facility as the main sporting venue for girls’ and boys’ sports provision.

2020 – Today
In 2020, the school bought and renovated the Hub@51, home to a new art and design technology studio, a digital media suite and specialist classrooms for both the history and geography departments.
Today, Twickenham Prep School welcomes 260 pupils each day and is run as a charitable trust with a board of Governors, many of whom are current or past parents entrusted with continuing to build on the school’s many successes.
