School Life

Prep Department

Welcome to Twickenham Prep School, Hampton. In Year 3 pupils progress to the charm of the old Beveree building where they can experience the delights of well-equipped subject rooms including a fully networked, modernised ICT room and a professionally designed and purpose built Science laboratory. The music facilities at our preparatory school, built in 2012, complete with peripatetic teaching rooms offer a bright and spacious learning environment alongside a flexible classroom used for English and Drama.

In 2020 we proudly opened our new building, "The Hub" at 51, High St in Hampton. This fantastic new facility has transformed our Art and Design facilities and provided additional bright and modern classrooms for our senior pupils. All of our subject rooms have been refurbished with new furniture and ICT facilities to represent the best of modern education practice in this delightful historical building.

Staff in the Prep are well qualified, highly motivated and enthusiastic about their subjects and their teaching. This means that TPS pupils are encouraged to develop their self-confidence and respect for others in a positive working environment.

There are ten classes at Twickenham Prep School in Hampton, with two each in Years 3-6 and single classes of boys taking the Pre-Senior Baccalaurate syllabus in Year 7 and Year 8. All of our girls leave to go to senior independent schools at the end of Year 6.

Pupils in Year 3 have their own class teacher with subject specialist teaching in Art, French, ICT, Library, Music, Think Tank and PE. From Year 4 pupils follow a secondary-style timetable, visiting specialist teachers for all subjects. They have a tutor whom they see everyday in the morning for registration. This tutor time is a vital part of the day when pupils are given information and assisted to organise themselves for the day ahead. Years 3-8 finish at 4.00pm every day.

We are particularly proud of our all-inclusive approach to sports, drama and music. All pupils take some part in school productions and concerts, and have the opportunity to represent TPS in a wide range of sports fixtures.
